Enjoy the scenic West Bar on one of our new offroad vehicles! Prepare for a day where the Columbia River meets the raw excitement of green dot roads — those hidden, rugged trails that twist through the wildlife reserve like secret pathways. This 8-hour journey blends the serenity of the unspoiled wilderness with the adrenaline rush of exploring the backcountry by UTV.
A Utility Terrain Vehicle (UTV), often called a side-by-side, is a four-wheeled off-road vehicle designed for adventure, featuring a car-like seating arrangement and controls, and known for its versatility and capacity for hauling and towing.
The Arthur S. Coffin Game Reserve — Where It All Begins
Start your adventure with a short pontoon ride across the river to the Arthur S. Coffin Game Reserve. Check out the bald eagles soaring overhead or a great blue herons feeding on the shoreline.
The Green Dot Roads – Gateway to the Wildlife Refuge
Settle into your 4-seater side-by-side UTV and hit the green dot roads. These roads — marked by those signature green dots on posts — are your ticket to the untamed backcountry.
The paths twist through the rugged area, sometimes narrow and rocky. Every turn offers a new surprise! Maybe catch a glimpse of an elk herd thundering across the plain in front of you, or a coyote searching for its next meal. Travel up the steep embankments of the wilderness and marvel at the contrast to the developed resort community across the river.
Naneum Ridge Trailheads
Following the green dot roads, you'll reach the Naneum Ridge Trailheads — a prime spot to hop off the UTV and explore on foot.
The trails offer stunning views of the Columbia Basin, but keep your eyes peeled — the wildlife here is abundant: Elk, deer, coyotes, and an occasional eagle or hawk circling overhead.
Naneum Ridge Lookout — A High-Altitude View
Back on your UTV, it roars back to life, and you follow the green dot roads higher up to the Naneum Ridge Lookout. The climb is steep, the road rough, but the payoff is worth it. From the lookout, the entire valley stretches below — the Columbia River winding like serpent through the arrid patchwork of land. It's a perfect spot to catch your breath and snap some unforgettable photos.
Lookout Mountain Home Historical Land Site
Now the green dot roads guide you down the ridge and toward the Lookout Mountain Home Historical Land Site. Here, the remains of old homesteads tell a story. It's a striking balance — the rugged past and the untamed present, side by side.
Mission Ridge — The Final Off-Road Stretch
Before heading back to the river, the green dot roads lead you to Mission Ridge. The mountain views here are dramatic — steep ridges, sharp peaks, and the river far below. The off-road ride back down is a perfect blend of speed and scenery — wild, rugged, and unforgettable. Then it's back to the shore and the pontoon boat back to civilization.
